Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey has been under fire for his controversial remarks on the judiciary and the Supreme Court, with the Opposition slamming him on one side and his own party distancing itself from his comments on the other.
Amid the heated political row surrounding Dubey, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma named his BJP colleague in an X post and said that the party has not endorsed his remarks and those statements were his “personal opinions".
In a lengthy post, Sarma shared past media reports to cite how Congress attacked the judiciary and judges and listed out instances to prove his point.
Dubey, who has been isolated on the matter since the beginning of the controversy last weekend, also reacted to Sarma’s tweet with a couplet in Hindi.
Himanta Biswa Sarma Slams Congress Over Past Remarks On Judiciary
The Assam Chief Minister reiterated what party chief JP Nadda said while denouncing Dubey’s remarks, that the BJP has upheld the independence and dignity of the judiciary and stressed that Dubey’s remarks were his personal opinions and were not reflective of the party’s stance.
“Recently, Hon’ble BJP President Shri @JPNadda ji reaffirmed this commitment by distancing the party from remarks made by Hon’ble MP Shri @nishikant_dubey ji concerning the Supreme Court. Adarniya Nadda Ji emphasized that these were personal opinions and not reflective of the party’s stance, reiterating the BJP’s deep respect for judicial institutions," Sarma tweeted.

Sarma “examined" Congress’ “historical interactions with the judiciary" and said that the grand old party has “publicly criticized" the members of the judiciary on multiple occasions.
Citing instances of impeachment motion against Justice Dipak Misra, criticism of Justice Ranjan Gogoi over Ayodhya verdict, “undue scrutiny" of Justice DY Chandrachud among others, Sarma said that all these suggest a “tendency within the Congress Party to challenge the judiciary’s credibility when decisions are unfavorable to their political narrative".
“Such selective criticism not only undermines the sanctity of judicial processes but also sets a concerning precedent for democratic discourse," he said.
Nishikant Dubey Reacts To Assam CM’s Post
Dubey reacted to Sarma’s X post with a couplet in Hindi.
“Life is torment, with no signs of relief in sight, Ah, this prison needs neither bars nor chains to confine."
Opposition Demands Criminal Contempt Against Dubey
The Opposition leaders demanded criminal contempt against the BJP MP over his remarks.
“It appears that the #SC #CJI &all venerable institutions are fodder 4senior #BJP politicians. Directly contemptuous remarks by #Dubey. In latter’s version, only orders favouring the govt are kosher. Each day new missiles being fired by high functionaries. Will we now stop talking about missiles from SC reality is missiles being fired against SC!#Dubey alleges #SC as a whole biased (“show me face..wl show law") & accuses #SC as a whole of what would be an offence under section 153 A of old IPC. Amazing & unbelievable. Hope sober #AG gives consent for criminal contempt without delay," Congress MP and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi posted on X.
