The Election Commission has dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of large-scale irregularities in the Haryana Assembly elections, questioning why the party’s own polling agents failed to raise objections during the voting process.

Election Commission sources said, “If someone allegedly voted more than 200 times in two booths, why was no objection raised by the polling agent of the Congress?"

They stressed that such issues should have been flagged immediately at the polling stations rather than after the results.

The sources further clarified that once the voter list was finalised, copies were shared with all political parties, giving them ample opportunity to raise objections or appeal against any duplicate entries.

“After the voter list was finalised, a copy of it was given to all parties. Why were the issues of duplicate names not flagged? Why was no appeal made?" they said, adding that due process had been followed throughout the electoral process.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s claims about voting patterns, the Election Commission sources also questioned how the Congress could allege who a voter had voted for, given that elections are conducted through a secret ballot.

They noted that only 22 election petitions are currently pending before the High Court out of the 90 Assembly constituencies, suggesting that procedural integrity had largely been maintained.

Rahul Gandhi’s Charge

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday levelled serious allegations of large-scale electoral malpractice in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, claiming that a Brazilian model’s photo was used multiple times in the state’s voter list.

He alleged that the image was registered 22 times across at least 10 different polling booths.

Speaking at a press conference at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, Gandhi accused the BJP of “ensuring victory through fake votes and massive manipulation of postal ballots."

He said, “Congress lost the election by 22,000 votes, but who is this lady? She votes 22 times in Haryana, in 10 different booths in Haryana. She has multiple names."
