Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday (local time) sharply reacted to US President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to use “economic force" to merge Canada into the United States, and said that there is no “snowball’s chance in hell" of that happening.
“There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States," Trudeau posted on X.
“Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner," the Canadian PM added.

What Did Donald Trump Say On Canada’s ‘Merger’ With US?
Trudeau’s reaction came after Trump, set to take over as the next US President this month, said he will use “economic force" and not military to merge Canada into the US.
“Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially drawn line and you take a look at what that looks like. And it would also be much better for national security," Trump told reporters at a press conference at his Florida Mar-a Lago home.
Trump also said that Canada has a “very small military" and relies heavily on the US military. “It’s all fine, but, you know, they got to pay for that. It’s very unfair," he said.
Trump’s Repeated Threat To Canada
Ever since Trump won the US Presidential polls in November last year, he has threatened to make Canada the “51st State of the US".
He had conveyed it to Trudeau for the first time when the latter met him at his Florida resort last year after the poll victory.
Trump has also threatened Canada to slap 25 per cent tariff on Canadian goods if the north American nation does not act to stop illegal immigration, besides drugs, from across the border into the US.
Soon after Trump’s threat, Trudeau had rushed to Florida to meet him.
