Ola Electric faces regulatory heat over mismatch in sales and registration data

Ola Electric is facing increasing regulatory scrutiny as the Ministry of Heavy Industries has sought details regarding discrepancies between the company's reported sales and actual vehicle registrations, sources told CNBC-TV18.

While Ola Electric claims to have sold 25,000 vehicles in February, only 8,600 vehicles were registered as per Vahan Portal.

As part of the ongoing probe, Maharashtra RTO authorities carried out inspections at multiple Ola showrooms across the state, including in Pune. CNBC-TV18 has reviewed a copy of the order issued by the Maharashtra Transport Authorities.

RTO authorities inspected vehicles to verify whether they had the necessary documentation and were being sold with a valid trade certificate. As a result, 36 scooters were seized in Mumbai and Pune due to compliance issues.

The regulatory crackdown on Ola Electric has also extended beyond Maharashtra. In Punjab, multiple Ola Electric stores have reportedly shut down, while in Jabalpur, RTO authorities have issued notices to the company after finding unregistered scooters being sold without a valid trade certificate.

Ola electric has not given any formal statement or reply to CNBC-TV18 queries.
