Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hosted members of seven delegations who had travelled worldwide to disseminate India’s message against terrorism. The PM acknowledged each member’s efforts in highlighting Operation Sindoor and India’s decades-long struggle to expose Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terror.

Modi praised the delegations’ united front, which included opposition leaders, sending a powerful message globally, including to Pakistan. “Our unity in solidarity was lauded by one and all," he conveyed to the members.

He further appreciated that these travels facilitated the exchange of views, helping India reach countries unaware of its fight against terrorism. “Aapne bahut mahatvapoorn kam kiya hai (You performed a very important job)," Modi said.

The Prime Minister particularly congratulated the team that visited Europe, noting the challenges posed by the significant Pakistani diaspora there. He also acknowledged the difficulties faced by the US delegation. Modi listened to the members’ individual experiences and assured them that such activities would continue. “I agree that such interactions need to happen regularly, and I will institutionalise it," he affirmed.

During the meeting, Modi informed the delegation members that the Pakistan director general of military operations (DGMO) had approached India for a ceasefire, leading to India’s decision to uphold it. He also clarified that this was not a “proxy war" but an “actual war".

Members reported that their interactions revealed a keen interest in investment and trade opportunities in India, which they included in their report to the external affairs minister.

Some members highlighted that even Muslim nations and West Asian countries supported India’s fight against terrorism. They noted significant resistance among the youth in these regions to accepting terrorism as part of their religion. “Muslims believe that Islam cannot be hijacked, and terrorism cannot happen in its name," a member shared with the Prime Minister.

Modi reiterated that India’s fight is against terrorism, not any nation. “The time has come that terror-supporting nations and terrorism cannot be separated," he stated.

One member recounted being repeatedly asked why Kashmir is so important to India and whether there were mines there. Modi mentioned this conversation to the delegation.

Multiple members enquired if the Prime Minister was keeping track of their delegation’s activities. Prime Minister Modi assured them that his team and he were constantly updated. “I was getting constant feedback about the delegations, and my team was monitoring it throughout," he said.

Modi’s detailed awareness of the delegations’ activities was evident when he referred to Shrikant Shinde as “Bhau", a nickname given by his delegation, and former union minister SS Ahluwalia as “Guruji", which amused everyone.

Several members were also moved by the personal interactions with the Prime Minister. For instance, he enquired about Priyanka Chaturvedi’s father’s health and Milind Deora’s cervical spine issue.

A total of seven delegations, comprising 55 members—including MPs, former diplomats, and former union ministers—were dispatched to 38 countries. These delegations were led by prominent leaders such as Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, ist Congress Party (SP) Supriya Sule, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Shiv Sena’s Srikant Shinde, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s K Kanimozhi, and Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha.
