Following the results of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and local body elections, a video of Sahar Sheikh, the 22-year-old and AIMIM’s youngest councillor, grabbed eyeballs on the internet.
The reason? Sheikh’s fiery speech, which laid out her vision for the next five years. Fresh from her electoral triumph, the 22-year-old councillor delivered her victory speech, targeting her opponents and sharing her ambitions for her term – a pledge she ended with the slogan “paint Mumbra green".
“Our opponents believed AIMIM would be wiped out, but we fought this election with strategy and determination, and we emerged victorious," she said. Drawing a dramatic analogy, Sheikh compared herself to a lion’s cub, saying that an entire “army of vultures" was out to defeat her, but failed.
“In the next election, we will cover Mumbra in green and drive Hindus out!"– threat by newly elected AIMIM corporator Sahar Shaikh. Will action be taken on this hate speech violating democratic values?

“In the next five years, every candidate in Mumbra will be from AIMIM. Mumbra must be completely painted green," added the AIMIM leader.
Her statement is being viewed as an effort to consolidate and mobilise votes, with critics warning that such rhetoric could deepen polarisation in the region.
Meanwhile, Sheikh also alleged that money, power, and political conspiracies were used against her party, but voters dismissed those tactics and placed their faith in the AIMIM’s election symbol, the kite.
The AIMIM leader also took a jibe at the ist Congress Party (NCP-Sharad Pawar faction), highlighting that the number of NOTA votes was higher than that secured by the party.
The Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM registered significant gains in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) results, bagging five of the 131 seats and outperforming larger established parties like Congress, which failed to open its account, and Shiv Sena (UBT), which secured 1 seat.
