Pakistan has officially confirmed that India carried out air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor, with the military and top leadership warning of a strong retaliatory response.

Major General Ahmed Sharif, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), said India struck three locations including Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad, using air power from within its own territory. “All planes of Pakistan Air Force are airborne. Pakistan will respond to it at a time and place of its own choosing. It will not go unanswered. The temporary pleasure of India will be replaced by enduring grief," he said.

The confirmation came hours after explosions were reported in parts of PoK, following India’s late-night operation in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.

In a strongly worded post on X, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised a “robust response." He said: “The cunning enemy has carried out a cowardly attack on five locations in Pakistan. Pakistan fully reserves the right to respond forcefully to this warlike act imposed by India. The entire nation stands with the Pakistan Armed Forces."

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated, “Pakistan strongly condemns India’s aggression, which is flagrant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, the UN Charter & international law. It has jeopardized regional peace. Pakistan reserves the right to respond as per Article 51 of the UN Charter. We will protect our sovereignty & territorial integrity by all means."

India described the late-night strikes, dubbed Operation Sindoor, as “measured and non-escalatory," stressing that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. Sources said the strikes were conducted from the Indian side and were carefully calibrated, with targets selected with precision. Reports suggested that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) headquarters may have been among the sites hit.

“India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution," the government said, amid fears of a military confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbours. It added that terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK was hit across at least nine sites.
