PM Modi had said at the Rising Bharat Summit that ordinary Muslims did not want partition of India and it was only wanted by "some fundamentalists, who were nourished by Congress leaders".

Backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on India’s partition, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said that the ambition of two politicians – Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah – led to the division of the country in 1947.

He said that the BJP has practised the policy of appeasement to none and justice to all since its inception, and this is reflected in the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, recently enacted after the Parliament passed the Bill after back-to-back marathon discussions in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha till late night.

“The partition of the Indian subcontinent was possibly the greatest blunder in the recent history of the world. The basic question that nobody raises is who asked for partition? There was no public demand. It was just the ambition of two politicians — Nehru and Jinnah. They could not have two prime ministers in a single country, so they carved out one for each one of them. The British Empire made the best use of their ambition. The common man in the Muslim community was opposed to the idea of partition," he said at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025.

His remarks were an endorsement of PM Modi’s statements on the country’s partition. Addressing the Summit on Tuesday, the Prime Minister had said that the idea of partition did not originate from ordinary Muslims but from “some fundamentalists, who were nourished by some Congress leaders, so that they could become the sole claimants of power".

Singh was also asked about the BJP’s legislations relating to the Muslim community, including the law to ban Triple Talaq and now the Waqf Amendment Bill, to which he said that the government reaches out to “those who need us".

“The BJP has followed the policy of appeasement to none, justice to all. Justice for all sections of the society, including Hindus, Muslims. Why should we have a different policy for someone who is subscribing to a particular religion? PM Modi has risen above vote politics and has attempted to start a new culture of politics. We have to reach out to those who need us," he said.
