Pastor asked ICE agents if he was under arrest. You're white, no fun, they replied

A Minneapolis pastor has narrated his encounter with US immigration officials during a raid and highlighted outright racism. He detailed how ICE agents pointed a gun at his face and shoved him at the back of their SUV, repeatedly asking him if he was frightened only to let him go later because he was white. A video of him describing the incident to an anchor has gone viral on social media. This comes a day after a US immigration agent fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis during a crackdown, with officials later alleging that it was an act of self-defence as she tried to run over him.

"I saw ICE agents circling a young woman who appeared to be Hispanic. I said to this ICE agent, 'Take me, stop harassing her.' The agent got in my face, pointed a gun at me, and said, 'Are you afraid now?' To which I said, 'I am not afraid.' The next thing I knew, they were putting handcuffs on me, and they put me in the back of an SUV," the pastor said.

He added that the ICE agents went back to him three times as he sat inside the car, asking him each time if he was afraid. "Hell no, I'm not afraid of you, and I'm never going to be afraid of you," the pastor had told the agents.

He said that the third time when the agents came back, and he asked them if he was under arrest, their response astounded him.

"The third time when they came back, they asked for my identification, they asked for my cellphone. I asked them if I was under arrest. They didn't answer, and then they said to me, 'well, you're white. You won't be any fun anyway'," the pastor further said.

Minneapolis, a Democratic state, has heavily come down on the streets following the killing of Renee Nicole Good. The site of her death was only a mile from where George Floyd was killed by a white police officer in 2020, sparking the largest racial justice protests in US history in the form of 'Black Lives Matter'.

US President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the ICE agent who shot and killed Good, calling it an act of self-defence. Trump blamed the radical Left and said the victim viciously, violently and wilfully tried to mow down the officer. However, Minneapolis leaders, including Mayor Jacob Frey, called the self-defence claim a "garbage narrative" and called ICE agents, asking them to "get the f*** out" of the state.

Renee Good's killing was the fifth death linked to immigration enforcement since 2024, thus increasing scrutiny on both ICE procedures and national immigration policy as applied in major US urban centres.
