Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday revealed that US Vice President JD Vance had tried reaching him on the night of May 9, shortly after India launched retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor to avenge Pahalgam attack. PM Modi said he was in a meeting with military officials at the time, and returned the call later.
“When I spoke to the US Vice President, he warned me that Pakistan may be preparing for a major attack," Modi said in the Lok Sabha. “I told him clearly: If that’s their plan, they will pay dearly. Goli ka jawab gole se diya jayega".
The Prime Minister said he made it clear that India would not be deterred. “I conveyed to the US that any misadventure by Pakistan would invite an even stronger response," he said, adding that Pakistan now knows India is willing and capable of going further if needed.
PM Modi also dismissed claims that India had come under pressure to halt Operation Sindoor. “No global leader told us to stop," he said. “The operation is still on, and India’s forces are acting with full confidence. Pakistan’s nuclear threats don’t work anymore".
