Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, was detained by the Bihar Police in the early hours of Monday.

According to officials, he was taken to AIIMS in an ambulance, however, he has refused treatment and will continue his fast.

A team of police officials reached the site of the protest early in the morning and were seen attempting to remove him from the spot. Kishor was held by the police personnel who evacuated the protest site.

Kishor began his hunger strike on January 2 this year, backing the protesting students to press the demand for the cancellation of the BPSC exam due to alleged paper leak and irregularities. The exam was held on December 13 last year.

“I am with the students with all my might and I’ll be sitting on fast-unto death till the issue is resolved," he had said earlier.

He had also vowed to file a petition in the Patna High Court on January 7 over the BPSC examination alleged paper leak.

Prashant Kishor Seeks Support Of Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav

On the fourth day of his fast on Sunday, the Jan Suraaj Party founder sought the support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav over his demand for the cancellation of the exam.

“I want to inform the people that this agitation is non-political one and not being carried under the banner of my party. All are welcome to lend support be it Rahul Gandhi, who has 100 MPs, and Tejashwi Yadav who has more than 70 MLAs", Kishor had said.

Calling them leader “much bigger than us", he said that they can get lakhs of people to gather at the protest site at Gandhi Maidan.

“This is the time to do so. The future of the youth is at stake. We are faced with a brutal regime which has ordered lathi charge 87 times in just three years," he said.

BPSC Exam Controversy

The exam faced allegations of a question paper leak, prompting the BPSC to order a retest for a select group of candidates who had appeared in the original exam. The retest was conducted on Saturday across 22 centres in Patna.

Of the 12,012 eligible candidates, approximately 8,111 downloaded their admit cards, but only 5,943 appeared for the retest. The BPSC said that the examination was conducted peacefully at all centres, with no reports of misconduct or malpractice.
