US President Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed the revived interest in the Jeffrey Epstein case, labeling it as “pretty boring stuff" and expressed confusion over why his supporters are so fixated on it.
Responding to questions from reporters, Trump addressed the ongoing uproar within his base following the release of a Justice Department and FBI memo last week. The memo stated Epstein had no client list and confirmed his death as a suicide in his New York jail cell in 2019.
“I don’t understand why there’s so much interest. He’s been dead for a long time and wasn’t a significant figure. I don’t see the interest or fascination. The credible information has been provided," Trump remarked.
He further added, “I don’t get why anyone would be interested in the Jeffrey Epstein case. It’s pretty boring stuff, it’s sorted but it’s boring, and I don’t understand why it keeps going."
Last week, the Justice Department and the FBI abruptly walked back the notion that there’s an Epstein client list of elites who participated in the wealthy New York financier’s trafficking of underage girls.
Following this, online chatter rose with followers calling the Republican president “out of touch" and demanded transparency.
Meanwhile, Democrats are latching on to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, demanding records be released and trolling Republicans on social media as they revel in a rare fissure between President Donald Trump and his fiercely loyal base.
Conspiracy theories over Epstein’s death in prison and potential evidence in his sex trafficking case, including an alleged “client list," have largely been a fixation for the right, one egged on by Trump himself.
