Donald Trump denied French President Macron’s claim that he returned to Washington to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, and called him "publicity-seeking".

Hours after US President Donald Trump abruptly left the Group of Seven summit a day early on Monday, he posted a message on his social media platform Truth Social, clarifying he did not rush back to Washington to work on a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

In the same message, Trump claimed his departure was “much bigger than that", thus leaving much to a guessing game and wider speculations.

Trump’s ominous message, without elaborating much, contrasted and snubbed French President Emmanuel Macron’s claims, who had earlier linked Trump’s G7 exit to the prospect of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Talking to reporters, Macron had also claimed that Trump had put forth a ceasefire proposal between Israel and Iran.

Later, it was also known that Trump had, in fact, refused to sign a draft statement calling for de-escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict.

In his social media post, Trump referred to Macron as “publicity-seeking" and said he (Macron) “mistakenly said" that Trump was returning to the United States to work on a ceasefire deal.

“Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire" between Israel and Iran," Trump wrote.

“Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that," he added.

“Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

WHAT DID TRUMP SAY AS HE RUSHED TO WASHINGTON?

Departing a day early as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensified, Trump, on Monday night, wrote on social media, “Iran can not have a nuclear weapon".

“Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" he added.

This came as world leaders gathered in Canada with the specific goal of helping to defuse a series of global pressure points, only to be disrupted by a showdown over Iran’s nuclear programme that could escalate in dangerous and uncontrollable ways.

Israel launched an aerial bombardment campaign against Iran four days ago.

Meanwhile, Israel appeared to be expanding its air campaign on Tehran, five days after its surprise attack on Iran’s military and nuclear program.
