Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India soon, Security Adviser Ajit Doval said on Thursday during his visit to Moscow. While the exact dates are yet to be finalised, Russian news agency Sputnik reported the trip is likely to take place in late August.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions between New Delhi and Washington over India’s trade ties with Moscow. Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed a new executive order imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on imports from India, citing New Delhi’s continued purchase of Russian oil despite Western sanctions.

Vladimir Putin’s potential visit underscores the deepening strategic relationship between India and Russia, even as global diplomatic pressures mount. It would also mark the Russian leader’s first trip to India since the Ukraine war began, now in its fourth year.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed that Vladimir Putin is also expected to meet Donald Trump in the coming days. Russian Foreign Affairs Adviser Yuri Ushakov said preparations are underway and a venue has been agreed upon, with details to be announced soon.
