Qualcomm is now bringing its AI processor for laptops that cost Rs 60,000

Qualcomm has shown promise with its premium Snapdragon X processors which is now coming to a more affordable range in the market this year.

The AI PC race is heating up as major AI chip manufacturers showcase their new ranges at the ongoing IFA 2024 in Berlin this week. Intel has talked about its new Core Ultra processors and now we have Qualcomm upping the ante with its AI Snapdragon X series CPUs that it claims will be available on laptops priced at $700 (Rs 57,100 approx) in the market.

AI Laptops For Rs 60,000: What To Expect

The new 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processors announced at the event by the company focus on AI processes that will deliver longer battery life, which seems to be the major highlight of this new range of AI processors in the market. The new ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processors have shown their worth and the early signs with the new models powered by the CPU have shown that Windows PCs have the potential to change the paradigm of the PC industry.

But the whole focus around AI seems premature as the supporting applications are still limited. That’s not all, the ARM-based processors are yet to see major apps come native to the platform, while games are yet to show their mettle on the hardware. Qualcomm says the new processors will not compromise on performance for efficiency but the price drop is likely to have some cutbacks which we’ll know in the near future.

Most of the Snapdragon-based laptops that we have tested or seen are priced well above Rs 1 lakh in the market, which is not a very vibrant segment for buyers as they have the Macs lingering around. However, the push for $700 AI laptops with the new processors will surely open a new market that buyers and the industry will be keeping a close on. We’ll see the new so-called affordable AI laptops with the new Snapdragon X processor rolling out from brands like HP, Asus, MSI and more by the end of this year.
