The brother of the terrorist who rammed the pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans blamed “radicalisation" behind the kin’s carnage that killed 15 people and injured over 30 others on New Year’s Day.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the Army veteran who drove the vehicle that night, was killed by the police on the spot after he fired shots after crashing his truck into people.

His brother Abdur Jabbar told The New York Times that his elder brother converted to Islam at an early age, however, added what Shamsud-Din did “does not represent Islam. This is more some type of radicalization, not religion".

Abdur described his brother as a “sweetheart, a nice guy, a friend, really smart, caring", The New York Times reported.

Shasmud-Din Pledged Allegiance To ISIS

The attack, prior to carrying out the deadly rampage, posted videos on his Facebook page in which he “pledged allegiance to ISIS", the outlet reported.

In one of the videos, he confessed that he planned on murdering his family. The terrorist was divorced twice and had two daughters aged 15 and 20 with ex-wife Nakedra Charrlle, according to The New York Times.

Shasmud-Din was driving and recording videos, which authorities suspect were filmed during his journey from his Houston home to Louisiana, sources told the outlet. Federal investigators believe he did not act alone in carrying out the attack in the French Quarter.

An Army veteran from Texas, Shasmud-Din drove a rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup with an ISIS flag attached, crashing into a crowd of New Year’s Day revelers on Bourbon Street.
