Russia may declare its “victory" against Ukraine in the war on February 24, the third anniversary of the launch of the country’s offensive in 2022, The Kyiv Independent reported, citing its military intelligence.
The Kremlin is likely to portray the victory announcement as a triumph over both Ukraine and NATO, the intelligence report said.
“Russia is preparing to declare an alleged ‘victory’ in the war against Ukraine by the ’round date’ – 24 February 2025, the third anniversary of the beginning of the full-scale war," the intelligence agency said, UK’s Daily Express reported.
“Moreover, these plans may also include a ‘Russian victory over NATO’, as Muscovite propaganda has long described the war against Ukraine as a war with the Alliance," it added.
The report comes as the US and Russia held talks in Saudi Arabia on ending the war in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin, on whose behalf his Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the meeting with his US counterpart Marco Rubio, said that the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere. Ukraine was not invited to be a part of this meeting.
