Samsung introduced the first foldable in the market many years back, can it become the first to bring a phone with rollable display as well?

Samsung has the laurel for kickstarting the foldable segment many years back but competition has now caught up. So, the company is eyeing a new segment where it could build on its strengths.

Reports claim Samsung could unveil its new high-end phone with a rollable screen sometime in 2025. The details come via The Elec in South Korea which has previously shared information that have come through eventually. The report says Samsung is developing a large 12.4-inch rollable display that will be adopted on a phone to be launched next year.

Samsung has showcased its innovative display technology at the SID Display Week 2024 event earlier this year, and many feel that the company would adopt one of these concept versions into the production-ready model. Rollable displays are not new per say, with brands like LG and Motorola showcasing their respective phones with a rollable screen but none of these have made it to the market. The biggest reason for that is the pricing of the display and the product in general.

LG did introduce its premium TV with a rollable screen which we managed to experience a few years back which is priced at whopping Rs 75 lakh, but phones are yet to hit the rollable limelight. So, can Samsung once again become the trendsetter with the rumoured rollable screen-totting phone launch in 2025, we sure hope so.

Meanwhile, Huawei is charting its own path in the market with the first tri-fold phone to launch for buyers. The Mate XT Ultimate triples up to become a 10.2-inch tablet and even in the folded state it is marginally thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 model. The device is only available in China for the time being with a global release not expected anytime soon.
