Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday sharply criticised the NDA-led central government, accusing it of treating marginalised communities as “second-class citizens."
The remarks came during the ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ in Patna, where the Congress scion addressed the gathering ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
“People from weaker sections of society being treated as second-class citizens," said the Congress leader. He further assured the people that Congress will demolish the “fake barrier" of 50 per cent reservations in the country.
Gandhi also pitched for a nationwide Caste Census, a long-standing demand of the INDIA bloc, saying that a similar exercise conducted in Congress-ruled Telangana would change the development model of the country.
In the past, the Congress leader has criticised Bihar’s caste survey, labelling it “fake" and accusing the Nitish Kumar-led government of misleading the public
“Caste census similar to an exercise conducted in Congress-ruled Telangana will change the development model of the country. Congress will conduct X-ray of India through caste census for the benefit of socially backward classes," Gandhi said.
“People of Bihar have always shown the new direction to India, confident they would do it again this time," he remarked as the state is set to hold assembly polls later this year.
