Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity benchmarks ended lower on Tuesday, but well off the day’s lows. The Nifty fell 64 points to 22,716, while the Sensex declined 243 points to 72,529.

The Nifty Bank slipped 212 points to 54,260, although the index recovered nearly 500 points from its intraday low. The midcap index ended 595 points lower at 59,319.

The Nifty is down nearly 7% in the September series, marking its worst September series performance in 25 years.

IT stocks remain a drag

IT stocks remained a key laggard, with the Nifty IT index falling over 1%. Wipro was the top loser among Nifty stocks.

Insurance stocks also extended losses, with PB Fintech falling 6% and TurtleMint declining 5%.

Tata Group stocks under pressure

Tata Group stocks remained under pressure following Tata Trusts' proposal, with Tata Chemicals falling 4%.

Honasa slipped 5% following block deals involving over 4% of its equity.

BSE surges in final hour

BSE surged 3% in the last hour of trade ahead of its inclusion in the Nifty.

Dr Reddy's emerged as the top Nifty gainer following a double-upgrade by a brokerage.

Voltas and Blue Star erased their earlier gains and ended 3-4% lower amid expectations of a price hike.

Market breadth favours declines

Market breadth remained in favour of declines, with the advance-decline ratio at 2:3. Nearly 30 Nifty stocks ended in the red, with losses of up to 3%.
