Both indices reversed losses during the closing auction session, while HDFC Life, Power Grid, ONGC and Bharti Airtel were among the top gainers.
Stock Market Highlights: The Indian stock market closed in the green on Thursday, with the Sensex and Nifty snapping a three-session losing streak despite oil prices remaining elevated above $102 per barrel.
The Sensex gained 138 points to close at 74,903, while the Nifty 50 rose 46 points to end the session at 23,478 on the weekly expiry day. Both benchmark indices were trading in the red before the closing auction session, but reversed their losses during the CAS to finish higher.
The Sensex saw a movement of over 1,000 points from the 3:15 pm level during the closing auction session. The Nifty climbed from 23,389 at 3:15 pm to 23,478 at the close, while Nifty Bank rose from 56,262 to 56,472 during the period.
Among the top gainers, HDFC Life rose 2.36%, followed by Power Grid, which gained 2.22%. ONGC and Bharti Airtel also ended higher, gaining 1.39% and 1.34%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the rupee weakened to 95.44 against the US dollar at the close, compared with Wednesday’s close of 95.11.
