Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates:

The Indian indices started the day's trade on Wednesday in the green with minor gains. The Nifty 50 index opened at 24,560.45. The Sensex index opened at 80,777.65.

Amid large block deals, and decline of the stocks on the radar, defence stocks once again surged.

After a forgettable session on Tuesday, Indian equities will look towards positive global cues for support heading into mid-week trading. The Nifty bulls did manage to defend 24,500 yet again on the downside, but unlike previous sessions, the index ended close to the day's low. The Nifty Bank, a key contributor to the Nifty recovery, saw profit booking on Tuesday after hitting a record high in opening trade, dragging the Nifty down with it. The otherwise outperforming broader markets also could not provide any support, as a slew of block deals kept prices under pressure. Today looks no different, as four more companies will see blocks taking place, including Alkem Labs, Tata Technologies, Indegene and Aditya Birla Fashion. A potential block in the Nifty 50 constituent, Eternal, is also being talked about on the street. The three-day meeting of the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee begins today, and while the street is sure of a rate cut, the debate is now on the quantum and future trajectory. Global cues, though, are positive, as a surprisingly positive job openings report took indices on Wall Street to the day's high. The S&P 500 is now just 80 points away from an all-time high.
