As the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit gains momentum, uniting leaders from 10 member states, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was seen struggling on the international stage. Sharif unexpectedly became the focus of online trolling, as a video making rounds on the internet shows him running to Putin to shake his hand after a formal photo session.
Social media users began trolling Sharif when a short video clip from the summit showing PM Sharif apparently rushing towards President Putin to shake hands went viral.
In the video, as Putin and Xi Jinping walk side by side following the photo op, PM Sharif is seen approaching from behind and quickly extending his hand to greet Putin.
Social Media Troll Pakistan PM
Netizens mocked the Pakistani leader, calling his behaviour a “desperate" attempt to gain attention. “While other leaders showed composure, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif came running to Putin to shake his hand… Pathetic attention-seeking behaviour. Xi Jinping realised what Shehbaz was going to do, so he looked the other way and ignored him," wrote a social media user on X, sharing a short clip.
‘Xi’s body language said it all. Alliances are earned, not begged for," added the other. “That’s how beggars behave," commented the third one.

In another video, PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are seen engaged in a conversation. Standing right beside them was Sharif, who appeared to be waiting for an acknowledgement. However, Putin continued talking with Modi and walked ahead without paying attention to Sharif, creating an awkward moment on camera.
Sharing this video, BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a jibe at the Pakistan PM.
Later, in an X post, PM Modi also shared a picture of leaders posing at the summit, which showed him and Sharif standing at different corners.
PM Modi At SCO Summit
The Tianjin SCO Summit formally kicked off on Sunday evening with a massive banquet hosted by Xi, which was attended, among others, by PM Modi and Putin.
This year’s summit was stated to be the largest 10-member SCO group as China, which holds the Presidency of the organisation this year, has invited 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international organisations, including the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
PM Modi on Monday delivered his remarks at the 25th SCO Heads of State Council Summit and said that terrorism remains a challenge not just in one country but all of humanity.
Referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, PM Modi asked, “Can open support for terrorism by some countries ever be acceptable to us?"
“The Pahalgam terror attack was not just an attack on India’s soul but an open challenge to all those countries that have faith in humanity. It raises a serious question – should a country openly supporting terrorism be acceptable to any of us? We must state clearly that no double standards will be tolerated in the fight against terrorism," PM Modi said.
