FC Conradie, a 39-year-old multi-millionaire and CEO of Gondwana Private Game Reserve, tragically lost his life after being trampled by an elephant on July 22. In a tragic twist, the fatal incident occurred on the very land he owned and passionately worked to preserve. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.

According to a statement shared with PEOPLE by local authorities, the incident took place when Conradie was on foot near a herd of elephants at the reserve in Mossel Bay, located in South Africa’s Western Cape province. Officials said emergency services were dispatched at approximately 8:00 am following reports of a man being trampled by an elephant. “On arrival, the members found the man, employed at the business, with multiple injuries. He was later declared dead by paramedics on scene," the statement noted.

By the time help arrived, the elephant involved in the incident had moved away from the area. While the exact circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear, the case bears chilling similarities to another fatal elephant encounter at the same reserve just last year.

A report by the Daily Mail revealed further details, suggesting that Conradie may have been attempting to guide a group of elephants away from nearby tourist lodges when the situation escalated. According to the report, one of the elephants turned aggressive, gored him with its tusks, and trampled him multiple times. Despite efforts from those nearby, no one was able to intervene in time.

The Gondwana Game Reserve paid tribute to their late CEO in a heartfelt statement, calling him “a devoted husband, father of three young children, and a cherished friend to many." Remembered as “a passionate conservationist," the reserve noted, “FC’s absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy will live on in the land he loved, the lives he touched, and the vision he so passionately pursued."

A spokesperson for the reserve has urged the public not to engage in speculation while investigations are ongoing.

The Gondwana Private Game Reserve hosts visitors year-round and is home to lions, leopards, buffalo, rhinos, and elephants. Guests are regularly advised to keep a safe distance from wildlife. A couple’s stay at the reserve can cost nearly $800 per night.
