Two months after the murder of Trey Wright, 16-year-old boy from South Carolina, his family and friends have blamed his cheerleader girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher, responsible for instigating a confrontation that led to his fatal shooting, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Trey’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, said that her son had been dating Kistenmacher (17) for a few weeks and was deeply in love with her. He felt being with Gianna was a “dream come true", his mother told the British outlet. However, unknown to Trey, Gianna allegedly set him up for an ambush on June 24.

Lindsey disclosed that Trey was on his way to meet Devin Raper and Gianna, believing he was going to engage in a fistfight.

The report mentioned that his friends revealed that Gianna, the daughter of a Horry County police officer, had argued with Trey earlier, accusing him of cheating while she was with Raper, the alleged shooter.

According to Daily Mail, Lindsey and Kirby accused Gianna of being a type of ‘queen bee’ who had intentionally picked a fight with Trey earlier on the night when he was killed – and involved Raper who was with her at the time just to stir the pot.

During a FaceTime call, Raper brandished a gun at Gianna’s phone, aiming the threat at Trey.

Despite this ominous gesture, both teens expected a physical altercation, not a shooting. Ethan Kirby, Wright’s friend, believes Gianna wanted a fight, not a fatal outcome. The confrontation escalated as Raper, along with others, traveled from Myrtle Beach to Johnsonville, SC. Gianna drove one of the cars, while Raper was in another vehicle.

When Trey and Raper faced each other, Raper reportedly shot Trey multiple times. The group, including Gianna, left Trey to bleed out. The incident was recorded by one of the 10 teens detained in connection with the homicide.

Lindsey expressed disbelief over the tragic turn of events, lamenting how disputes among teens escalated to gun violence. While Kirby attributed the horrific act to peer pressure, noting Raper’s tough talk from the beach and his realization of Trey’s resolve during the confrontation.

Gianna, known to associate with the beach crowd, is charged with accessory before the fact of a felony and was released into the custody of her family last week. Raper is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, held without bond. Ten teens have been charged in relation to Trey’s death.
