A South Korean navy patrol plane with four people aboard crashed during a training flight, the navy confirmed, with the status of casualties not immediately known. The aircraft departed its base in the southeastern city of Pohang at 1:43 p.m. local time before falling to the ground for unspecified reasons, the navy said.

Emergency services in Pohang reported dispatching rescue workers and fire trucks to the crash site after receiving calls from local residents describing an unidentified flying object falling and an ensuing explosion.

Authorities are currently working to determine the condition of those on board and the cause of the crash. Pohang’s Nambu police station confirmed the incident involved a navy patrol aircraft but could not immediately provide details on potential deaths or injuries.
