Southall crash: Met seeks witnesses after Sikh teen Ranbir Singh dies

A 17-year-old Sikh boy died in a road collision in south-west London, and the Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses as the investigation continues. The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday and involved a Ford Mustang.

The teenager, identified as Ranbir Singh, died at the scene. Police said another passenger, a 26-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital, while the driver has been charged with several offences and remanded in custody.

According to the Met Police, officers were called to reports of a collision on South Road in Southall. The force said it attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the passenger in the car, Ranbir Singh, aged 17, sadly died at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and continue to receive support from specialist officers," the Met Police said.

"A man, aged 26, who was another passenger, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital. We await an update on his condition," the force said.

Police arrested the driver, 20-year-old Sukhveer Singh. He was later charged with "causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a vehicle without insurance".

Sukhveer Singh appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates' Court in London on Monday and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on October 19.

The police said they are "particularly keen" to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell footage, mobile phone footage or dashcam recordings that could help the investigation.

Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Police, said: "This is a truly tragic incident in which a young man has lost his life and another remains in hospital with serious injuries.

"Our deepest sympathies remain with Ranbir's family and friends, who continue to be supported by specially trained officers during this extremely difficult time.

"While a man has now been charged in connection with this collision, our investigation remains ongoing and we are continuing to establish the full circumstances leading up to the incident," he said.

He reiterated the appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision, "the manner of driving beforehand, or the movements of the Ford Mustang in the Southall area" to come forward. The case now centres on the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash that killed Ranbir Singh and left another passenger seriously injured.
