In a dramatic move, a Samajwadi Party spokesperson was seen presenting a blue drum to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak at an event in Lucknow on Tuesday. However, many might question the reference behind such unusual gifting in the political circle. So, to those unfamiliar, the answer is Meerut Murder Case.

A murder case that took place in Meerut a few days ago left the entire country in shock when the wife of a Merchant Navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, confessed to having killed him with the help of her lover and hid his body in a blue drum filled with cement to avoid suspicion.

Since then, the blue drum, in which Saurabh’s severed body parts were found, has become the talk of the town, along with the flood of memes and posts on social media. SP leader Deepak Ranjan also joined the fervour and took a jibe at the Uttar Pradesh government over the state’s law and order situation by gifting the “blue drum" to Deputy Chief Minister.

The exchange of blue drum occurred during the ‘Lantrani Hasya Utsav’ program in Lucknow, has has escalated the stir over the incident. Notably, Saurabh’s wife, Muskan Rastogi, along with her lover Sahil Shukla, is in jail and has admitted that she had plunged a butcher’s knife into her husband’s chest while he lay in deep sleep. She then dismembered Saurabh’s body with her lover Sahil Shukla by her side, packed it into a blue plastic drum, and sealed it with cement — turning their home into the scene of a horrifying crime.

While both Muskan and Sahil are facing trial in jail, the incident has significantly impacted the sale of blue drums, a common hardware item, in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.

Blue Drum: A Symbol Of Terror

After the ‘blue drum’ murder came to light, many now view blue drums with dread. Numerous social media reels regarding the blue drum have also intensified the terror.

Meanwhile, drum sellers in Meerut have seen a drastic decline in sales, with buyers now associating the blue drum with the gruesome murder.

Shopkeepers were seen appealing to the people that the person who committed the crime is in jail, so what is the fault of the drum in this?
