Hours after Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched the Fram2 mission and sent a crew of four private astronauts to orbit Earth from pole to pole, the space agency released a video showing a view of the Earth’s polar regions.
The Falcon 9 launch vehicle lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking the first time humans have ever flown over the Earth’s poles.
As SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule separated from the Falcon 9 launch vehicle successfully, the crew aboard took incredible photos from their extraordinary vantage point.
The video, shared by SpaceX, shows the view from space as it orbits Earth at a 90-degree inclination over the north and south poles.
CEO Elon Musk reshared the video, captioning it, “This is the first time humans have been in orbit around the poles of Earth!"
Maltese investor Chun Wang, a Chinese-born magnate who founded a bitcoin mining company, was the bankroller and commander of the Fram2 mission.
The four crew members on Monday afternoon were driven to the launchpad in a caravan of Teslas – the electric cars of Musk’s other company – winding through the roads of Cape Canaveral, Florida, with a police escort, as a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched overhead in an unrelated Starlink mission.
