Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The market sell-off intensified, with the Nifty falling 371 points to 22,232 and breaching its previous 2026 low to hit a new low of 22,180. The Sensex fell 1,072 points to 71,566.
All frontline indices declined over 1%, except IT, while the broader market also remained firmly in the red. The Nifty Bank slipped 541 points to 54,515, while the Midcap index fell 1,500 points to 57,883.
The Nifty is set to fall for nine consecutive weeks for the first time in 25 years. BSE-listed companies have also erased nearly ₹13 lakh crore in market capitalisation over the past two days.
Ten Nifty stocks are at 52-week lows, while 44 stocks are trading below their 200-day moving averages. Market breadth favoured declines, with the advance-decline ratio at 1:6.
Adani Group stocks saw a major fall, with most stocks declining 4% or more. Metal stocks also slid, tracking the rise in the dollar index, with JSW Steel among the top losers.
Paint and airline stocks declined as Brent crude rose above $104 per barrel. Jubilant FoodWorks fell 6% after its Q2 like-for-like growth came in below estimates.
Paytm and Mobikwik slipped 5% each amid reports that MDR may be deferred to January 2027. Ola Electric fell 5% following its rights issue announcement at ₹27 per share.
ITC declined 4% following block deals involving nearly 3% of the company's equity, worth ₹9,500 crore.
