Banking stocks remained under pressure after Kotak Mahindra Bank announced the start of its CEO succession process, while the Nifty Auto index was the worst-performing sectoral gauge.
On the positive side, metal and pharma shares bucked the broader weakness, helping limit the downside. Stock-specific action remained in focus, with Persistent Systems, Astral and Kotak Mahindra Bank witnessing sharp declines, while Hexaware Technologies and Transrail Lighting gained on fresh business developments.
