The Indian stock market is closed on Thursday, April 10, on account of Mahavir Jayanti 2025, an important religious festival in Jainism, celebrating the birth of Lord Mahavira.
Both the stock exchanges, Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bomaby Stock Exchange (BSE) are not conducting any trading or settlement in stocks, derivatives, or securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on Thursday.
The domestic equity markets will resume regular trading operations on Friday, April 11.
Market participants should note that in April there are three holidays on Dalal Street, in addition to the eight closures over the weekends. Besides the stock market closure on April 10 for Mahavir Jayanti, the Indian markets will remain closed on April 14 for Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, and on April 18 for Good Friday.
Markets will also be closed on May 1 on account of Maharashtra Day.
Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended lower on Wednesday, April 9. Benchmark Nifty closed 0.61% lower at 22,399.15 and Sensex settled at 73,847.15, down nearly 380 points on Wednesday.
