Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, during a high-level meeting with a top Indian diplomat in Kabul, condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, according to sources.

Sources told CNN-News18 that Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary of the Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran (PAI) Division at India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), also shared specific details on the Pahalgam attack with Afghanistan.

The talks between Muttaqi and Prakash in Kabul also covered a range of bilateral issues, including political relations, trade, transit, and regional developments.

It comes days after the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan officially condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, stating that such incidents disrupt efforts to maintain regional security and stability. It also expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan categorically condemns the recent attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of J&K, and expresses condolences to the bereaved families," said Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi.

He added that such incidents undermine efforts to ensure regional security and stability.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the terror attack, prompting India to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Pakistan on all fronts.

The development unfolds amid growing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan following the US withdrawal from Kabul in August 2021. Since long, Afghanistan has maintained its stand to highlight India’s importance as a major power in South Asia.
