Thick smoke was seen rising over Parand, near Iran’s capital Tehran, on Wednesday, prompting speculation online after reports of a possible explosion surfaced.
According to a post by Iran on X, a resident shared a video claiming an explosion was heard and smoke was seen rising in the area. News18 could not independently verify the video.
Iranian authorities, however, denied any security incident. State media, citing the Parand fire department, said the smoke was caused by a fire in reeds along the Parand riverbank and that firefighters were at the site carrying out extinguishing operations.
Reuters reported that videos broadcast by state media showed smoke rising over the area, which lies near several military and strategic sites in Tehran province.

Meanwhile, a report by Axios said the Trump administration could be edging closer to a major military confrontation with Iran, with officials and sources suggesting any operation would likely resemble a broad, weeks-long campaign rather than a limited strike.
The report said preparations in the region point to the possibility of joint US-Israeli action if diplomacy fails, with such a conflict expected to have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and global politics.
Axios added that the growing US military build-up — including aircraft carriers, fighter jets and air defence systems — has raised expectations within the administration that the response would be significant if nuclear negotiations collapse.
