This is the no.1 podcast in the world as we enter 2025. It's not 'The Joe Rogan Experience'

Think Joe Rogan is the biggest podcaster in the world? Well, not in 2025.

Father Mark-Mary Ames’ “The Rosary in a Year” podcast has surpassed podcast titan Joe Rogan, claiming the number one spot on Apple Podcasts for three days straight to kick off 2025, Fox News has reported.

The success of the podcast signals a breakthrough moment for faith-based media at a time when religious content has started gaining mainstream traction.

Father Mark-Mary, the creator of the podcast, is the director of communications for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR).

According to Fox News, the podcast cemented itself at the top position just days into the new year and briefly surpassed Rogan's "The Joe Rogan Experience", which typically dominates the charts.

Father Mark-Mary attributed the podcast's success to God’s will, adding that its popularity is not about him but about sharing grace and devotion.

"We really believe that this belongs to God. It’s not about me at all. It’s about helping people pray and grow in their faith," he told Fox News.

The podcast takes listeners on a year-long journey of prayer and reflection, delving into the mysteries of the rosary and providing a deeper understanding of Catholic devotion.

While the rosary can be a difficult practice for newcomers, Father Mark-Mary frames it as “physical therapy for the soul,” helping strengthen the ability to focus in prayer.

A Calling to Serve Others

Father Mark-Mary was brought up in a comfortable family in Orange County, California and was drawn to serve after being inspired by Mother Teresa, the report said.

In his quest for a deeper connection with the poor and a more authentic expression of his faith, he found his calling with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, a group known for its deep commitment to living in poverty and serving the marginalized.

The podcast is not just a method of reaching people but also a way of offering “grace” and helping others discover the peace that comes with prayer. As the first Catholic podcast to reach such mainstream heights, it’s part of a larger movement in the digital space where faith-based content is making waves despite broader trends of declining religiosity.

Faith-Based Media Shaping Modern Spirituality

Father Mark-Mary's podcast highlights an important cultural shift where faith-based media is thriving even as people turn away from organized religion.

He acknowledges that while the podcast’s success is meaningful, it is not the most important thing he does.

“There’s many, many people in my life who are doing things that are much more beautiful and much more moving than having a podcast hit number one. But I am grateful that this platform is helping people pray and connect with God," he told Fox News.
