A horrific shooting at a Target store in North Austin, Texas, has left at least three people dead and several others injured, according to the Associated Press. The Austin Police Department confirmed on Monday that the suspect has been detained and is currently in custody.
In the initial reports, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) mentioned that there were at least four victims in the shooting. However, officials have not yet released further information about the identities or conditions of the victims. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis addressed the media following the incident, providing initial details about the investigation. She revealed that after the attack, the suspect stole a vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. He later crashed that vehicle, then proceeded to steal a second car before being apprehended in South Austin.
Chief Davis stated that responding officers found three people who had been shot in the Target parking lot. Of those, two have been confirmed dead. “This is a very sad day for Austin. It’s a very sad day for us all and my condolences go out to the families," Davis said. No further information about the victims has been released at the conference.

The Austin Police has requested those present at the venue to look for alternate transport to reach their homes at the parking lot remains closed to access.

Minutes before 3 pm ET, police urged the public via social media to avoid the area until further notice. The 8000 block of MoPac’s southbound frontage road, between Executive Center Drive and Anderson Lane, was temporarily closed. However, the main northbound and southbound lanes of MoPac remained open. Authorities confirmed the scene remained active until at least 3:30 pm.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement work to determine the motive behind the attack and gather evidence from the scene.
