US Vice President JD Vance said that President Donald Trump is “in incredibly good health” and brimming with “incredible energy,” while also acknowledging he is prepared to assume the presidency if tragedy strikes.
In a wide-ranging interview with USA Today, Vance painted a picture of Trump as a tireless leader who “works late at night and early in the morning.”
“I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” Vance said.
At the same time, he acknowledged the responsibilities of the vice presidency include readiness for the unexpected. Asked if he was prepared to step into the role of commander-in-chief, Vance replied, “I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.” He added he was ready if “there’s a terrible tragedy.”
The interview touched on topics well beyond presidential health. Vance defended his televised sparring match with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commented on the Taylor Swift–Travis Kelce engagement story dominating pop culture headlines, and weighed in on Trump’s controversial push to remove a Federal Reserve governor.
Still, it was the question of Trump’s condition that drew Vance’s most emphatic response. “The president is in incredibly good health, and he has incredible energy,” he repeated, underscoring that Trump remains fit to finish his term.
