US President Donald Trump reiterated that his administration had “settled eight wars," asserting that several of those conflicts were resolved due to his trade policies and the use of tariffs.
“I settled eight wars and numerous of them was because of trade and because of tariffs," Trump said while speaking to the reporters in the White House, highlighting what he described as the effectiveness of economic pressure in achieving foreign policy goals.
The President did not detail which conflicts he meant, but his remarks align with previous claims that expansive executive power over trade measures has enabled him to pressure foreign governments without turning to military escalation.
He also asserted, “We took out Iran’s nuclear sites, now they want to make a deal with me," underscoring his belief that decisive action against Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure has positioned the United States for negotiations, a claim tied to his broader foreign policy narrative.
Trump’s remarks came ahead of a significant Supreme Court ruling that will determine whether he exceeded presidential authority by using emergency powers to impose sweeping tariffs during his second term.
A coalition of companies and trade groups has pushed back against his strategy, alleging that Trump improperly relied on the Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
If the court overturns the existing tariff structure, the administration could be forced to return billions in duties already collected, a possibility Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has cautioned about.
Even with the ruling pending, Trump maintained that he has several fallback options.
He maintains that alternative tariff pathways exist, but none, he argued, match the national security strength of the mechanism now under judicial review.
