U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested a major development in Middle East diplomacy, indicating that progress has been achieved in efforts to resolve the crisis in Gaza. Trump’s remarks follow recent intensive discussions with Arab and Muslim leaders, during which he unveiled a detailed plan aimed at establishing a permanent ceasefire in the region.
On Sunday, President Trump described the current status of negotiations as a pivotal moment. “We have a real chance for GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST,” Mr. Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL, FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!!”
The Trump administration recently presented a 21-point plan for ending the war in Gaza during talks with Arab and Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
"We had a very good meeting concerning Gaza. It was a "very successful" meeting with all the big players, except for Israel. But that's going to be next," Trump told reporters after leaving the UN headquarters in New York during the 80th UNGA.
In his formal UN address, Trump opposed unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, calling such efforts a "reward" for Hamas, and reiterated his call for a ceasefire and an end to the war.
"As if to encourage continued conflict, somebody is seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities," he asserted.
