President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to revoke Harvard University’s tax-exempt status. This follows the elite US institution’s refusal to implement extensive policy changes mandated by the White House.
Harvard’s president, Alan Garber, had previously addressed students and faculty in a letter, pledging to oppose the government’s directives. He maintained that the university would not “negotiate over its independence or its constitutional rights."
Responding to this, Trump’s Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, in a statement, announced the withholding of $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and a freeze on $60 million in government contracts.
