Turkey wants a de-escalation between Pakistan and India, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, amid tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations following last week’s deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. He also reiterated “strong support" to the people of Pakistan.
“Pakistan PM Shehabaz Sharif visited our country. It coincides with sensitive time in terms of developments in the region. We discussed defence and trade as well as multidimensional relation with Pakistan. We reiterated our strong support to Pakistani people. In our region and beyond, we don’t want any new conflict. Before tensions between Pakistan and India become grim, we hope there would be de-escalation," Erdogan was speaking in Ankara following a cabinet meeting.

However, Turkey’s defence ministry has denied sending any ammunition to Pakistan.
Last week, terrorists associated with the Pakistan-backed terror group TRF opened fire on unarmed civilians in the scenic Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, killing 26 people, mostly tourists. The Resistance Front (TRF) is a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
