UK Supreme Court Rules Legal Definition Of A Woman Is Based On Biological Sex

The UK Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex. In the landmark ruling, the court said that it is not a triumph for one side over another as the law still gives transgender people protection against discrimination.

The decision comes after a long-running legal battle between the Scottish government and a women’s group. The Scottish government had argued that transgender people with a gender recognition certificate (GRC) are entitled to sex-based protections while For Women Scotland argued they only apply to people that are born female.
