China has made it clear to the world that Xi Jinping will not succumb to US President Donald Trump’s “bullying" over the purchase of Russian oil.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said it is legitimate and lawful for China to engage in economic, trade and energy cooperation with other countries, including Russia, Global Times reported.
“We will continue to take energy supply measures that are right for China based on our national interests," said spokesperson Guo Jiakun when asked about Trump’s plans to impose secondary tariffs on China for Beijing’s purchase of Russian oil.
Earlier on Friday, Jinping held a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who is set to visit China later this month. The Russian president will attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and also hold talks with Xi.
