A viral video showing an Indian worker in Saudi Arabia pleading to be rescued and returned home was filmed only to gain social media attention, Saudi authorities have said.

The media spokesperson for the Eastern Province Police clarified that the man, an Indian expatriate, was summoned for questioning after the video began circulating online. “It was found that he had documented and published the content to increase the number of views on his social media account,” the police said in a statement.

Officials added that there was no dispute between the man and his employer, and that legal action has been taken against him in coordination with relevant authorities.
