US Ambassador Sergio Gor: 'India will be invited to join' US-led 'Pact Silica' next month

In a major announcement, new US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, revealed that India has been invited to become a full member of 'Pact Silica', a US-led strategic initiative for a secure silicon supply chain. Mr. Gor stated, 'Today, I'm pleased to announce that India will be invited to join this group of nations as a full member next month'. The move is seen as an effort to build an alternative to China's dominance in the semiconductor and critical minerals industry. However, India Today's Foreign Affairs Editor, Geeta Mohan, offered a critical perspective. She noted that while the US wants India in its alliance, it recently withdrew from the India-led Solar Alliance (ISA), suggesting a lack of reciprocity. Mohan characterized the invitation as the US 'putting America's agenda forward' rather than a simple warming of ties, highlighting the complexities of the US-India relationship.
