Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested for allegedly assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus on Wednesday.

Tyler Robinson is the main suspect behind the killing of Charlie Kirk.
US authorities released the mugshot of Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah who is the main suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Robinson’s identity during a press conference on Friday, alongside FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials.
In the mugshot, Robinson is seen wearing something that resembles a bulletproof vest. Authorities said Robinson’s father turned him in after the FBI released a video showing the shooter jumping off a roof at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was addressing an event before he was fatally shot.
‘We got him!" said Cox during the press conference, describing the shooting of Kirk as a “watershed moment" for America. “It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on the American experiment. It is an attack on our ideals. This cuts to the very foundation of who we are, of who we have been and, and who we could be in better times," he said.
Cox said the bullets found in the chamber of the high-powered rifle reportedly used by Robinson included apparent left-wing slogans such as “Hey fascist! Catch!" and another referencing “Oh, Bella Ciao!" a popular Italian anti-fascist song, according to the New York Post.
An emotional Kash Patel also bid farewell to “his friend" Kirk, saying, “Rest now brother, we have the watch, and I’ll see you in Valhalla."

How Was Robinson Caught?
Robinson was turned in after his father recognised him in photos released by the FBI on Thursday, sources told the New York Post. His father called the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and confronted his son when he returned home, at which point Robinson admitted he was the gunman.
Robinson had initially said he would rather kill himself than be in custody. His father then convinced his son to speak with their youth minister, who also serves as a task force officer with the US Marshals Service. The minister called the FBI and Robinson was taken into custody, the sources informed.
Robinson’s arrest was announced by US President Donald Trump. Authorities also spoke with Robinson’s roommate, who shared numerous Discord messages from the suspect. These included instructions to retrieve a rifle, along with specific details about its location—wrapped in a towel and hidden in a wooded area near the Utah Valley University campus.
Meanwhile, family members also told investigators that Robinson had become “more political in recent years". Cox said Robinson spoke about how much he did not like Kirk and how he was “full of hate and spreading hate".
