Trump also posted via his official Truth Social account, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!"
Trump’s message of solidarity came after Jammu and Kashmir witnessed one of the worst terrorist attacks on civilians since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, as Lashkar-linked terrorists opened fire on unarmed tourists and locals in Pahalgam on Tuesday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later said Trump will speak to Prime Minister Modi as soon as possible following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Meanwhile, US Security Adviser Mike Waltz reacted to Trump’s message by saying, “A terrible tragedy. Please join me in praying for the victims and their families."
At least 28 people, including foreign nationals, were killed and several others were injured in the terror attack. The terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked (LeT) the Resistance Front (TRF) took responsibility for the attack.
Top intelligence sources said 4 to 6 terrorists were involved in the Pahalgam attack, including three foreign nationals and one local from Kashmir. M4 and AK-47 bullets were recovered from the site. Security forces have been rushed to the spot, and they have cordoned off the area.
In response to the deadly terrorist attack in southern Kashmir’s Pahalgam, US Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife and US Second Lady Usha, expressed their heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families. Vance, who is visiting India, shared his sorrow over the tragic incident.
“Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack," he said in a post on social media site X.
The attack was condemned by people from all political parties. Russian President Vladimir Putin also extended condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, condemning the incident as a “brutal crime" with “no justification whatsoever".
