US Stock Market Live: US Stocks tumbled on Thursday, erasing much of the momentum from Wednesday’s historic rally, after President Donald Trump announced a 90-day reprieve on some of his “reciprocal” tariffs. Markets were jolted as the White House clarified that tariffs on Chinese imports would now rise to 145%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell as much as 2,150 points before trimming losses to close 864 points lower. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also saw sharp intraday drops of over 6%, though both recovered off their worst levels.
Tech stocks led the decline, with Tesla plunging over 10%, Apple shedding more than 6%, and Nvidia and Meta down over 7% each. Bond yields held steady, with the 10-year yield near 4.31%, while Brent crude resumed its downward trend, nearing $60 a barrel.
White House officials acknowledged that recent bond market turbulence influenced the timing of the tariff pause. However, investors remain anxious over the broader economic impact of rising trade tensions. Fund managers are advising caution, warning against attempts to buy the dip amid heightened volatility.
