The White House is sending its top Iran negotiating team to Pakistan, with Vice President JD Vance leading the effort, as Washington moves to convert a fragile ceasefire into a broader deal.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said US President Donald Trump is dispatching his Iran negotiating team, led by Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan for talks, with the first round scheduled for Saturday.
The announcement signals a shift from confrontation to diplomacy, even as the White House maintains a hard public line. Leavitt said Iran’s ability to arm proxy groups in the region has been significantly curtailed following US and Israeli strikes that began on February 28.
“Iran can no longer distribute weapons to its proxy groups,” she said, framing the military campaign as having reshaped the balance ahead of negotiations.
