The United States is working to organise a meeting between President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Vice President JD Vance revealed during a broadcast interview on Sunday.

Vance said the US was hoping to secure a “negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and Russians can live with."

“One of the most important logjams is that Vladimir Putin said that he would never sit down with (Volodymyr) Zelensky, the head of Ukraine, and the president has now got that to change," Vance told Fox News.

“We’re at a point now where we’re trying to figure out, frankly, scheduling and things like that around when these three leaders could sit down and discuss an end to this conflict," he added, referring to the upcoming US–Russia summit in Alaska on 15 August.

The US Vice President further cautioned that such an outcome might leave both sides dissatisfied.

“It’s not going to make anybody super happy, both the Russians and the Ukrainians probably at the end of the day are going to be unhappy with it," he said.

The possible absence of Zelensky from the Alaska summit has raised concerns among European allies that any agreement could pressure Ukraine to cede territory, an outcome firmly opposed by the European Union.
